Esplanade Zagreb
Built in 1925 for passengers on the Orient Express, the Esplanade is still Zagreb's grandest address — and its lobby alone is worth a look even if you're not staying here. Rooms are traditionally furnished with high ceilings and marble bathrooms; the in-house restaurant and afternoon tea are genuinely good, not just hotel-good.
- Walking distance to the main train station and Lower Town
- One of the only hotels in Zagreb with real architectural history
- Spa and restaurant good enough to justify a visit even for locals
